For many people spring is the perfect time to start renovations, but even if people are not planning to renovate they can use spring as an opportunity to redecorate. There are many small changes that people can make to enhance the beauty, functionality, and enjoyment of their home.

Clean

Before people begin plans to renovate or redecorate their homes, or any room in their home one of the first things they can do is some spring-cleaning. Cleaning will help give people an idea of how much space they have to work with for redecorating, and they may rediscover items that they have forgotten about. If an item is no longer working or being used on a regular basis, then people can donate these items. Getting rid of the old brings in room for the new.

Rearrange Furniture

If people have the space, sometimes just rearranging furniture can bring new life to a room or a home. People can try rearranging their couches and chairs in a living room, or can switch where their dresser and bookshelf is in a bedroom. Even moving smaller pieces of furniture like an end table can help change the look and feel of a room.

Paint

Painting the wall of a room or even painting just one wall (as an accent) can transform a space. Neutral colors like white, off-whites, tans, and beige colors are always a safe choice, but adding a bold paint color can transform the look of a room. Certain colors are said to evoke feelings. For example a color like blue has a calming effect that is perfect for a bedroom, while yellow is a vibrant and stimulating color that is perfect for a busy room like a kitchen.

Add Decorations

Redecorating a home does not have to cost a lot of money. Some people might want to purchase new furniture for their living, for example, but perhaps a new living room set might not be in their budget. Instead, they could purchase smaller items to help change the look of a room. Some throw pillows can completely change the look of a couch, chair, or even a bed. Adding custom sisal rugs to a room with a hardwood floor can break up a space, particularly in an open concept style home.

Feng Shui

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese philosophy that attempts to increase a person’s life force (or chi energy) in a home or room through the items (including furniture and decorations) used in a home. According to Feng Shui, certain items should be placed in certain areas of a home to increase a person’s wealth, health, and happiness. For example, the middle of a room is representative of the Earth element, so items with a yellow or earth tone, like a neutral colored sisal rug would be perfect for this area of a room.

No matter what people choose to do some cleaning, rearranging furniture, painting, adding new decorations and adding some Feng Shui principles can help change the look of a home or a room.
